About 90% of facelifts are performed on patients over 40. The procedure is meant to act as a “repositioning” operation. However, it’s important to note that it does not assist in lessening the appearance of wrinkled nor damaged skin (see laser skin rejuvenation). Patients who have skin damage may require laser resurfacing with a facelift.
This procedure is often combined with forehead lift and eyelid lift or liposuction and/or lipofilling (fat injection). It may be done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia, and recovery is usually 3 to 4 weeks for a major repositioning but can be as short as 10 days for lesser degrees of intervention.
A simple rule of thumb is that the more you want done, the longer the recovery…but the more dramatic the result. If your goal is to look refreshed with modest changes, then a less inclusive operation would be your best option. If your goal is to turn back the clock a few decades, then be prepared for a longer recovery time.
With so many areas being operated on, it can get a little overwhelming for some patients. For individuals who would like to get over their surgery quicker, this procedure can be completed in a series of steps: a little at a time.Even though the time off after each procedure is less, please note that overall you will end up with more days of downtime after all the procedures have been completed.
